Custom packaging with your own die-cut
If no existing model fits your product, we have a new die-cut made. The box then sits exactly around your product, with the flaps, windows and inserts you need. On a repeat order of the same shape you do not pay the die-cut cost again, as long as the tool is still being kept within the agreed period.
A die-cut is the tool with which the board is cut to shape and creased. For a new shape that tool has to be made, and that is a one-off investment that comes with the first order. After that the tool is ready and waiting. If you order the same packaging again, that item disappears.
That changes the calculation. On a first order custom work looks expensive, because the tooling cost is spread over that one run. If you order the same packaging two or three times a year, the unit price can drop to the level of a standard model, while you do have a box that fits exactly.
Printing is a separate choice. Full colour in your brand style turns packaging into a presentation medium, which for a web shop defines the unboxing moment. Against that, unprinted board is easier to recycle. We supply unprinted as standard and only have printing done where you want it, so that the choice is deliberate rather than automatic.
Full colour may require a varnish, a laminate or a litho-laminated top layer. That can change the recycled content and the recyclability of the box. We state per order which finish has been used.
If you have boxes printed with your own name or brand, you may yourself count as the manufacturer of that packaging under the European packaging regulation. We then supply you with the data and declarations from Cattini that you need for this.
What you use this packaging for
When your own die-cut is worth it.
- Products with an unusual shape
Long and narrow, round, or with protruding parts: exactly the cases in which a rectangular standard box leaves a lot of empty space.
- Recurring runs
If you order the same packaging several times a year, you pay the die-cut cost once and benefit from the fit thereafter.
- Brand experience for the customer
Full colour printing makes unboxing part of your brand. Especially relevant for web shops that run on repeat purchases.
- Less empty space
A shape that fits the product lowers the volumetric weight and the share of empty space. The latter will be capped from 2030 at the earliest.

Everything is produced to your internal dimensions; the table shows the limits within which that is possible.
Price, minimum order and lead time
We work with tailored quotes, because the price depends on size, board grade and print run.
Frequently asked questions
What does a die-cut cost?
That depends on the complexity of the shape. A rectangular box with an extra flap is a different matter from a shape with windows and inserts. Your quote lists that item separately, so you can see what is one-off and what counts per unit.
How long is the tool kept?
Ask about this when you request your quote. The tool is held at our production partner in Krakow; how long it remains available is an arrangement we make per customer.
Can I get a sample first?
A hand-cut sample is customary for a new shape, so you can check that your product really fits before the tool is made. Indicate with your request that you would like one.
Does printing count for the packaging rules?
Inks and coatings are part of what the manufacturer must be able to substantiate about the packaging, and they affect how well the board can be recycled. Our page on the packaging regulation (PPWR) sets out which data we can supply about this.
